Ever since Annalese was born we have been feeling a bit tight in our home. Our plan originally was to stop renting out our basement and make it a part of our home. We ended up caving in however after so many people kept asking if they could rent it. Back in October we were feeling overrun by toys and such. Chad was playing on my Pintrest account when he found an attic playroom. He showed me and said wouldn't that be fun! I was hooked by then and wanted it done yesterday. We headed up to our attic to scope it out.
When we took our contractor up to look at it I'm pretty sure he thought we were crazy. We also took my Dad up there to see what it looked like before we started. When we were young my dad and grandpa built a secret room off our bathroom that we lovingly called, the "Beanie Baby Room." Now we were going to start our own secret room for toys.
Chad worked with the contractors as they finished it throughout January. We also kept it a secret from the kids. They knew there was work going on up in the attic but had no idea what the plans for that space would entail.
When it was finally finished we let them watch cartoons all morning one Saturday and we secretly took all the toys up and put them into place. Then after lunch we had the big reveal. It was so fun, Sydney was jumping up and down screaming, "It's a playroom, it's a playroom, come on Keely!" Unfortunately Keely, was screaming from fear, she has been scared of the attic ever since we told her if you step on the pink stuff you could fall through the floor. She just couldn't comprehend that we took care of that and put in a new floor. Through the tears and fears she eventually made it up the ladder. It took her a few hours to even want to stay up there and a few days to tackle the ladder herself, but now she proudly ascends and descends by herself.
Here is the view to the back window.
This is the TV corner and Landon's legos.
The bench we created by upholstering fabric to foam and a large piece of wood
This is our storage space that Papa helped us finish off and carpet while they were here.
Here is our very own Alice in Wonderland door.
Here is the girl's corner; strollers, kitchen, polly pockets, barbies, and dress ups. What more could you ask for?
As the project went along I thought maybe we should put a beam for Sydney to swing on. We didn't end up doing it, but she found her own way!
Annalese LOVES to be up in the attic. Especially because we don't let her up there very often.
Thanks for helping us take pictures Nana. I can't believe all these toys came out of those two rooms. We feel like we can finally breath in our house again! We love our large scale "Beanie Baby Room!"
